Top 6 teams for Insurhack MENA 2022

Congratulations to the top 6 teams. The judges took more than 3 hours to come to a final alignment on the 6 winners. It was a tough long discussion as many startups scored very close to each other ”

14th June 2022, the second round of pitching for the final 15 startups at the Insurtech MENA Hackathon, virtually to four judges from Mr Lars Gehrmann from QIC DVP, Mr Maciej Tomaszewicz from Deloitte, Tiago Henriques from Google and Ali Geramian from Anthemis, the session was also live-streamed on YouTube to the public.

All 15 teams went through 1 week intensive mentoring sessions with representatives from QIC, Deloitte, Google, Prifina, Anthemis, QLM and QFC, and Plug & Play MENA organized a 2 day pitching training session to prepare the teams for the final pitch. At 14th June 2022 14:30, the teams each had 5 minutes to complete their pitches and the panel judges sat through the entire 15 pitches before reconvening at the judges panel room to deliberate the scores and merits of each team based on their mentorship progress, presentation styles and materials, innovation and technology applied, business models and many more. It took the judges more than 3 hours to come to a final alignment on the 6 winners. It was a tough long discussion as many startups scored very close to each other, the quality of all 15 startups were amazing yet all the panel judges agreed that we could only pick 6 teams to pitch at the Insurtech Summit this 23rd of June.

Congratulations to the Top 6 teams:

A special congratulation to Rimads who won both the like-based community vote and judges’ vote. Amanleek, insurtech start-up from Egypt scored very close to Rimads in the community-based vote.

DoctorOnCall, healthtech startup from Malaysia was another tough case to deliberate on. All judges were aligned on the strength and the potential of the company, but due to the advanced growth stage they are in (close to series B), judges and founding partners have decided to take them on a separate track to be fair to the rest of early-stage participants. Instead, we have decided to invite the co-founder of DoctorOnCall to be part of our heath tech panel discussion on “How to build health tech unicorns”, at the Insurtech MENA Conference in Doha.

The next step is the on-site final on June 23rd, during the Insurtech MENA conference in Doha.
